Recorded courses attached to your campus

A campus runs on-site courses only. NSDP can attach a recorded course to your campus: you can then read it and give it to your own students for free. What attaching means, where attached courses appear, and what a campus can and cannot do with them.

Your campus runs on-site courses: courses taught in person at the campus. It does not create, own, edit, price or publish recorded courses (self-paced lessons students take online). Those are made by teachers and NSDP. NSDP can attach a recorded course to your campus. An attached course stays its teacher's course: your campus can read it and give it to its own students for free, and nothing else.

What attaching means

  • NSDP chooses a recorded course and attaches it to your campus. No course is created with a campus; attaching is always a separate, optional step, and only NSDP can do it or undo it.
  • The course still belongs to its teacher. The teacher and NSDP edit it, price it, publish it and answer its students.
  • Your campus gets a view-only window on the course, and may give it to its own students for free.
  • Recorded courses made by teachers who work at your campus are not attached by that fact. A teacher's course is the teacher's alone: your campus does not see it, its comments or its students unless NSDP attaches it.

Where attached courses appear

  • While at least one course is attached, the menu shows Courses under Teaching and Comments under Engagement, and the grey figure beside Courses counts the attached courses.
  • With nothing attached there is no Courses or Comments row and no course figures on the home page. Opening those addresses takes you to the campus home.
  • The Recorded courses page lists every attached course with its cover, teacher, lessons, students and status. The figures show Courses, Published, Not live yet and Teachers.
  • Search by title, and filter by status (Draft, Published, Archived) and by instructor. Select a course to open it on its outline.
  • There is no New course in the campus portal: not in the menu, and not in the toolbar's New menu.

Viewing an attached course

An attached course opens with a View only note and four tabs: Curriculum (the outline), Students, Comments and Preview. There are no Setup, Information, Pricing or Release tabs for a campus. Each tab is explained in An attached course in the campus portal, tab by tab.

Giving a course to your students

This is the one thing your campus does with an attached course. The course must be live (published).

  1. Step 1: Open the course's Students tab

Go to Courses, open the course and choose Students.

Sign in to open this screen
  2. Step 2: Choose Give to a student

The Give this course to a student panel opens.

  3. Step 3: Find the student

Type at least two letters of the name or the start of the email. Only your own campus's students are searched. A student who already has the course is marked Already has it and can't be chosen.

  4. Step 4: Choose Give course

The student gets free access at once and an email about it. The Students tab now lists them.

  • Giving a course is free: there is no payment and no invoice, and nobody earns from it, neither the teacher nor the campus.
  • The Students tab lists only the students your campus gave the course to. Students who bought the course, or were enrolled by NSDP, are not listed.

Taking a course back

  • On the Students tab, open a student your campus gave the course to and choose Take the course back, then confirm. The student loses access at once, and their progress and assignment submissions for the course are deleted.
  • Your campus can take back only what it gave. Enrolments a student paid for, or got from NSDP, stay with NSDP.
  • If the student has meanwhile got the course through a bundle, they keep that access.

What a campus cannot do

  • Create a recorded course, or an online live session.
  • Edit an attached course: its outline, lessons, information, price or release schedule.
  • Publish, unpublish, archive or submit a course for review, or withdraw it from review.
  • Approve, reject, reply to or delete comments. Your campus reads them; the course's teacher and NSDP moderate and answer.
  • Attach or detach a course. Ask NSDP.
  • Earn from a recorded course. A campus earns only from paid seats in on-site batches held at the campus.

If NSDP detaches a course

The course disappears from your campus portal. Students your campus already gave it to keep their access. When the last attached course is detached, the Courses and Comments rows leave the menu.

While the campus is suspended

You can still open attached courses, their students and their comments, but you can't give a course to a student or take it back until NSDP reactivates the campus.

FAQ

There is no Courses row in our menu.

No recorded course is attached to your campus. Your on-site courses are under Teaching → On-site courses.

Can our campus create a recorded course?

No. A campus runs on-site courses only. Recorded courses are created by teachers and NSDP.

One of our teachers made a recorded course. Why isn't it listed?

A teacher's recorded course belongs to the teacher alone and has no connection to the campus. It appears here only if NSDP attaches it to your campus.

How do we get a course attached?

Ask NSDP. Attaching is optional and only NSDP can do it.

Does our campus earn when a student takes an attached course?

No. A campus earns only from paid seats in on-site batches at the campus, never from recorded courses, attached or not.

The student search doesn't find one of our students.

Only students registered, and not dropped, in an on-site batch at your campus are searched. Type at least two letters of the name or the start of the email.

The course has more students than our Students tab shows.

The tab lists only the students your campus gave the course to. Students who bought it or were enrolled by NSDP are not shown to a campus.
