An announcement is a short notice for everyone enrolled in one of your courses or live classes: a change of class time, a reminder about an assignment, new material. Students read it in their portal; they cannot reply to it.

Posting an announcement

  1. Step 1: Open Announcements

It is in the Students group of the teacher menu. The form is headed New announcement.

Sign in to open this screen
  2. Step 2: Choose who it is for under Post for

The list has two groups: your Recorded courses and your Live Zoom classes.

  3. Step 3: For a live class, choose the Batch

Every batch of this class sends it to all of them; or pick one batch.

  4. Step 4: Write the Title and the Message

Say the one thing students need to know first, for example "Tomorrow's class starts at 4 pm".

  5. Step 5: Tick Pin to the top if it should stay first

Pinned announcements stay above newer ones on the student's side.

  6. Step 6: Choose Post announcement

You see Posted. Your students can read it now.

Where students read it

  • On their Announcements page, with every course's announcements together.
  • On the course page, and in the Announcements tab under a lesson in the course player.
  • On a live or on-campus class's page, and in the Announcements tab of its classroom.
  • Each one shows your name, the course and the date.

Removing an announcement

Posted lists what you have posted, newest first, each marked Recorded course or Live class. Remove one from there; you are asked to confirm ("Remove this announcement? Students will no longer see it."). An announcement cannot be edited: remove it and post a corrected one.

FAQ

Can students reply?

Not to the announcement itself. They can ask in the lesson's Discussion forum, or write to you privately; those messages arrive in Students → Student messages (/teacher/inbox), where you answer them.

Is it the same as a notification?

No. Notifications are worked out by the portal (a class coming up, work that is waiting). Announcements are the ones you write.

Can I post for a course I don't teach?

No. You can post only where you are the instructor. School staff can post for any course in the school.

Does a student who enrolls later see it?

Yes, as long as the announcement has not been removed: students see the announcements of the courses and classes they are enrolled in now.
